Democracy Day: Folorunsho Calls For Preservation and Strict Adherence To Democratic Practices

As Nigeria celebrates its 25 years of democracy tomorrow, a prominent All Progressives Congress chieftain and chairman of Folorunsho Olafemi Foundation, Engr Folorunsho Olafemi, has called for the preservation and strict adherence to democratic practices in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday to commemorate Nigeria democracy day, Folorunsho said that Nigeria’s democracy should be defended by all and sundry, adding that democracy was a means of ensuring good governance.

He further stated that it is important that Nigerians continue to hold their leaders accountable, and that they must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.

Folorunsho also urged political leaders to lead by example and respect the rule of law, saying this was necessary for strengthening democracies.

He said, “Democracy is a precious gift that must be preserved and safeguarded. It is important that citizens are allowed to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.”

Folorunsho also encouraged Nigerians to participate more actively in the political process, saying that the more people participate in the political process, the stronger democracy becomes.

“Democracy is not perfect, but it is the best system we have. We must all work together to safeguard it and make it work for the common good,” he said.

Folorunsho concluded by calling on the government to invest in institutions that promote and protect democracy. He also appealed to the media to be vigilant and to report objectively on government activities, as part of their roles in ensuring accountability.
