Following the hike in price petrol pump price from N500 per litre to N617 per litre and the general inflation Nigeria is presently experiencing, the Kogi State House of Assembly minority leader and member representing Yagba West Constituency, Ibikunle Idowu has prevailed on his constituents and Nigerians at large to be patient and remain steadfast while he called on the Federal government to expedite all plans to provide palliatives to ease the suffering of Nigerians.

Hon Ibikunle Idowu made this call on Monday during an interactive session with Green Revolution and National Development (GRAND), a Non Governmental Organization with interest in the agricultural sector and entrepreneur training for the less privilege.

According to the lawmaker, “petroleum is the lifewire of Nigeria economy and any misdeed in the upstream sector proportionally affects other sectors of the economy, hence, the effect of the subsidy removal which has brought about inflation and hardship upon Nigerians.

Speaking further, Hon Ibikunle Idowu, “while it is understandable and visible to all that the Federal government has been working assiduously to ease the sufferings of the common man through the various monetary policies and the recent declaration of state of emergency on food security and water resources, it has become expedient at this moment for the federal government to expedite all plans towards providing palliatives to ease the suffering of Nigerians following the recent hike in price of petrol across the nation.

“Be it as it may, this are critical times in the life of every Nigerians. We as the people’s representative must live up to expectations by being proactive to ease the pains of our people.”

In his admonition to the people, Hon Ibikunle Idowu called for restrain from every act that is capable of jeopardizing the relative peace we enjoy in the country, while he also urged Nigerians to remain calm and supportive to the government.

“I know the hardship of the moment is very much tempting, but in spite of that, we as a people must restrain from every form of criminality or act that is capable of jeopardizing our relative peace, and also, this is a time to be calm and supportive to the government. We cannot afford to slide into chaos while we suffer. This will amount to fighting on two fronts at a time. The probability of coming out victorious in such situation is as slim as a single broom. We must hold ourselves together and work for our collective goods,” he concluded.
